Others might give you knowledge that is predominantly western oriented. SOAS, on the other hand, gives you an understanding of non-western languages, cultures and countries which is increasingly important in a globalised world. Given my passion for development in Africa and the regional focus of my studies, there was only one place that could offer me what I wanted — and that is SOAS. I chose to study at SOAS because of the interesting course options that cover pertinent topics other leading institutions are yet to cover. SOAS is a unique University that combines both academic excellence and a vibrant, active and innovative student body.

SOAS is a place that accepts everyone for who they are, and where your individual talents are encouraged to shine.

I do not regret my hesitant decision to come to SOAS, and hopefully, neither will you. The lecturers were fantastic!

My favourite class was Politics of Resistance in the Middle East which was clearly helpful for understanding contemporary politics of the region. The learning here really continues outside of the classroom. After tutorials, students would often ask me about how I felt as an American about different issues. We often went out to coffee or to grab a falafel afterwards.

It gave me a great perspective on how the US is viewed and it allowed me to change minds about America.

Doctoral research at King's or other prestigious universities; employment in government, European Union institutions, international organisations, business, and the media. In my year at King's College London I had two really supportive supervisors with expertise in not only the geopolitics and political economy of East Asia, but also in energy markets. I developed critical thinking and I acquired methodological skills that are used on the daily basis working in the field of international development.

Today, I make use of those tools and analytical skills on a day-to-day basis when I analyse global markets and provide investment recommendations. Just by virtue of being at a world-class university in the heart of London, but also because I gained so many transferable skills, was able to further explore the links between politics and economics, take modules in many different subjects, and learn from amazing lecturers.
